SUMMARY: Responsible for handling all samples submitted to the facility. This covers whether the sample is submitted for testing or is sent from other offices for the purposes of retain only.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Accumulate all samples designated for testing and retain.
Ensure all received samples are properly labeled and/or tagged with current information. Enter all samples received into LIMS.
May be required to pick-up and/or drop off samples at customer locations, outsourced laboratories and other Inspectorate offices.
Ensure samples are secure during transport to prevent spillage. Prepare samples per proper IATA procedures to be shipped.
Must be able to read and understand MSDS sheets and ensure a proper supply of MSDS sheets are available and on file for all products received.
Generate a disposal list daily for Retain Department.
Works a rotating schedule including weekends, holidays and must be available to work on an on- call basis.
Shipping and Receiving Technician May be required to utilize respiratory equipment in handling of samples. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to employees in their work group or department.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add their work hours on their timecard.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Drivers license required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to pass fitness test to utilize required respiratory equipment in sample disposal.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste and smell. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to fully utilize a breathing apparatus when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Due to the difficulty and working space requirements of this position, it is difficult if not impossible to make reasonable accommodations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and with explosive material and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of radiation.
