SUMMARY: Responsible for operating company vehicle used in the handling and transporting of samples submitted to the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other duties may be assigned.

Accumulate all samples designated for transport from the various locations assigned for pickup by the Department Manager.

Participates and takes an active role in the BMT meetings and Safety Committee.

Assigned to pick up various supplies such as chemicals, lab equipment, parts and mail as assigned by the Department Manager.

Make sure all sample lids are tightly closed and secured for transport before operation of the vehicle.

Operates company vehicle(s) in a safe and courteous manner by obeying all traffic laws.

Must follow all DOT regulations related to the transporting of hazardous chemicals.

Submit all samples to Shipping and Receiving Technician for processing.

When needed, will assist in sample log in, retain, and the disposal of samples.

May be required to utilize respiratory equipment in disposal of retain samples.

Assists in monitoring, measuring, and assessing quality assurance practices and protocols for continual improvement.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and at least 1 year of experience. Must be able to run samples between laboratories such as Jacintoport, Port Arthur, Pasadena, and others within the region. A valid driver’s license is required. A TWIC card is highly preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to employees in their work group or department.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add their work hours on their timecard.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS: Drivers license required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to pass fitness test to utilize required respiratory equipment in sample disposal.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste and smell. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to fully utilize a breathing apparatus when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Due to the difficulty and working space requirements of this position, it is difficult if not impossible to make reasonable accommodations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and with explosive material and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of radiation.
