Civil Engineering Technician / Construction Inspector

Bureau Veritas North America, Inc. has an opening for an Engineering Technician/Construction Inspector position.

Responsibilities

· Perform field surveys, construction project inspections
· Provide compilation and distribution of data and maps
· Receive, handle and process applications for encroachment permits.
· Provide coordination of engineering support functions and demonstrate initiative in analyzing and resolving problems.
· Review plans for street, building, utility systems, surface and underground structure improvements.
· Maintains records of right away transactions and maps
· Gathers and tabulates statistical data, compiles data and cost estimates from maps and drawings
· Provide periodic field observations to insure that construction is in conformance with approved plans and regulations.
· Review construction plans and/or sites to insure compliance with all state and local ordinances regarding environmental pollution and flood plain requirements. This would include, but not be limited to, National Pollution Discharge Elimination System requirements, National Cleanwater Act, California Coastal Commission Act, and FEMA flood plain requirements.
· Review and inspection of utility installations including underground gas, electric, telephone, cable TV and Internet.
· Review of pavement restoration
· Inspection and review of concrete curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveway approaches.

Knowledge

Knowledge of engineering mathematics, principles and concepts, principles, practices and methods of surveying, public works construction, property lines, right-of-way, easements, deed descriptions, traffic investigation, survey and report activities.

Requirements

Education -Any combination of education or experience normally equivalent to a two year college degree, that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Two years of full-time, paid experience in municipal engineering.

Certifications / Skills

· Must have a valid class C California driver’s license and safe driving record
· Working knowledge of office computer software – Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.
· Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Must be a team player and able to work well with clients and co-workers
· Must possess problem solving skills
