Role synopsis

This role is to lead the TAR strategy within RTE. The Advisor is a member of the RTE Extended Leadership Team, and the role has significant responsibility for planning to execution to deliver the TAR or major maintenance event within the agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). As an Advisor, the role provides technical expertise to Refining in the area of TARs and contributes to organizational capability by identifying and mentoring future specialists, ensuring high-quality, readily accessible documentation of BP and industry experience, and providing training and coaching to enable Refining personnel to apply effective TAR techniques.

The Advisor role in general can be summarized as:
Advisor = E + ABC, where
•E = Expert: Provide technical advice to impact business delivery, company strategy and industry direction and provide technical assurance to enhance business performance.
•A = Ambassador: Act as ambassadors for their discipline, both inside and outside BP to enhance reputation
•B = Best Practice: Lead development and transfer of best practice methodologies, specifically by discovering, sharing and documenting best practices.
•C = Coaching: Provide training, guidance and leadership opportunities to less experienced engineers in key skill areas to assist in developing the next generation of experts/specialists thus building organisational capability and capacity.

Key accountabilities

•Facilitate the safe management of events between 600,000 to 1,000,000 man hours over 40 days
•Delivery of the TAR steering committee process and content
•SME and ambassador for the Turnaround Common Practise (TCP) for site. TCP milestones are allocated, communicated, tracked and improved against benchmarks
•Delivery of a number of TAR related metrics and performance management tools. These typically include
•Delivery of successful TAR and SWP events as defined by each individual units agreed KPI's
•Participate in the Global Continuous Improvement Forum
•Ensure TAR preparation for next event follows on as soon as current event finishes
•Completion of compliance tasks as allocated and recording the completion details in CTM
•Completion of all work activities in accordance with the LOMS
•Successfully lead multidiscipline teams within a TAR environment
•Proactively build and manage successful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Essential Education

•Bachelor of Engineering Degree
Desirable criteria and qualifications

•Demonstrated experience and appreciation for requirements for ensuring HSE compliance in an operational setting for TAR's
•Direct experience and expert knowledge of TAR or a similar role with comparable dimensions of project management methods
•Previous experience managing the full cycle of planning through execution of a large and complex event
•Downstream experience and knowledge is preferred but Upstream or closely related will be considered
•Engaging style with the ability to effectively delegate with clear boundaries and is aware of the details but not bogged down by it
•Ability to engage and hold accountable both direct and indirect reports
•Ability to learn and apply business knowledge to long-term TAR strategy for site
•Ability to communicate with influence at and within all levels

Desired profile

Essential experience and job requirements

•20+ years in Downstream Refining or Petro-Chemical in Turnarounds/Projects
•Strong understanding and capability associated with project management, controls, contract/procurement strategy development, TAR strategy development/dependencies (with maintenance, inspection, operations, project, commercial).
•Possess business case capability of a major project leader. Strong leader with demonstrated track record of working across organizational boundaries to enroll and energize teams to deliver.
•Capability and competency to coach, guide and mentor TAR Event Managers and Superintendents, effectively utilizing leadership framework to accomplish this, i.e., value expertise, energize people, act decisively, and deliver results (specific to TAR program safety, quality, schedule and cost).
