Job description
BBC Look North is one of the most watched regional news programmes on BBC One serving a diverse audience across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire including Hull which will become UK City of Culture 2017. Our viewers expect the highest standards from all of our programmes from breakfast through to lunchtime onto our flagship 1830 and into the late bulletin at 2225. We pride ourselves on high production values and generating stories that really matter to our audience. We need somebody who is highly motivated, organised and creative to join our successful team based in Hull. All our journalists work in a multi-platform way making the best use of new technology to share content across TV, radio and online. You will be required to deliver additional material to support our radio, online and social media outlets.
Role Responsibility
The successful candidate will be expected to work across all the newsroom shifts, producing material for our breakfast and lunchtime bulletins and produce items for the flagship 18.30 programme. You will be expected to generate new ideas and original stories and you may also have the opportunity to report. As part of a rota this role will also include writing updates for the Hull and East Yorkshire Live page.
The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for an experienced journalist with a track record of delivering original journalism, a strong editorial judgement and first class writing skills. You’ll possess excellent news judgement and broadcasting skills and be able to originate and develop programme stories. You’ll need to be able to work co-operatively as part of a team and will have an understanding of our audiences and the diverse make up of our transmission area. You should have experience of using editing tools such Quantel and you must be willing to embrace new technology. You must have a good understanding of how developments in digital media and social media impact on local audiences.
The role requires someone who is willing to work co-operatively and flexibly, and across a range of shift patterns.
