Where the Chemistry Happens…

Technical Specialist, Printing & Packaging – Charlotte, NC

The Technical Specialist is responsible for bringing solutions to our Printing & Packaging customers by working in a collaborative manner with other technical specialist colleagues in the industry, as well as across the organization. This position will perform hands-on laboratory work for technical service projects, including providing customer support.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success: You Will…
Utilize technical know-how on specific product line, test methods for the industry and/or product use in industry-specific applications to sell BASF product in industry/sub-segment; support test method development in conjunction with external test method societies. Serve as an individual contributor by developing and testing formulated solutions. Perform hands-on work in the lab and coach the pool of Application Laboratory Chemists and Technicians, and be responsible for demonstrating the value of the product. Stay current with trends, development, and innovations in focus industry and relevant product lines; maintain knowledge of customer application testing, and support business growth through paper presentations at trade shows/conference and training of direct and indirect customers. In collaboration with marketing and laboratory staff, develop and present value propositions for specific targeted growth products Develop lasting expert to expert technical relationships with customers. Identify business trends in & beyond the customer scope/respective portfolio and provide on-site customer support if needed. Provide a technical “voice of customer” into BASF.   Work in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards. Qualifications 

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Materials Science plus a minimum of 7 years of experience in formulation and application of Printing Inks, Packaging Coatings or related applications OR a Master’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in Printing Inks, Packaging Coatings or related applications OR a Ph.D and at least 2 years of experience in Printing Inks, Packaging Coatings or related applications. Strong record of industry technical leadership and experience in Printing Inks or Packaging Coatings Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation) Solid record of working with multi-faceted teams through knowledge-sharing, coaching, and mentoring Ability to identify R&D opportunities through interaction and knowledge of markets, industry, and customers; a champion of R&D pipeline filling
