Research and Development Engineer (2001982) – Attapulgus, GA or MIDGA (McIntyre and Gordon, GA)

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to be responsible for leading and managing major strategic projects for new product research and commercialization, process research, process optimization and cost reduction. You will be a member of the FCC R&D group (RCC/PR) located either at the Attapulgus site in Attapulgus, GA or the MIDGA site in McIntyre and Gordon, GA.  

Travel for the role is estimated to be approximately 25% to 33% - primarily within the three FCC manufacturing sites in Georgia and the Iselin, NJ R&D center.  Other travel as needed to support project requirements.  Note that travel requirements can vary significantly depending on the nature and needs of the project of responsibility.

Depending on your experience, you may be located at the MIDGA site - serving as the onsite group leader, expected to operate independently with offsite managerial support.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success

·  Demonstrating your strong project management skills, you will successfully lead, plan, and execute projects of responsibility.  You will also use these skills when you act as the project leader for projects of advanced difficulty, as well as a team member supporting additional R&D efforts.
·  Applying your strong leadership experience, you will be responsible for managing the microsphere pilot plant including planning and scheduling of work, maintenance planning, and ensuring proper EHS best practices are followed.
·  Successfully engaging within the organization, you will work closely with Manufacturing, Marketing, EHS, Finance, and Research for scale-up of new products and major refinements of existing products.
·  Your unwavering commitment to workplace health and safety will be evident as you address EHS requirements at BASF and other manufacturing sites, meeting the standards for a Zero Incident Mindset and Zero Loss of Containment Mindset.  You will also commit to proactively raising the standard for EHS at all sites for all projects.
·  Your solid problem-solving ability will be essential as you make decisions independently with a problem - solution type approach, as well as plan and develop project scope concerning unique problems which have impact on major strategic initiatives.
·  Leveraging your education and applicable industrial experience in chemical engineering, inorganic chemistry, or surface chemistry, you will maintain full technical accountability for interpreting, organizing, documenting, executing and coordinating assignments.
·  Demonstrating initiative and a drive for results, you will explore options and develop project scope for major projects.  You will also recommend approaches based on conventional and novel approaches.
·  Your strong verbal and written communication skills will serve you well as you report results to Management for approval to implement in existing facilities or consult capital project development for new facilities.  You will also use these skills as you develop and communicate detailed project plans and project proposals, communicate and present project results, and lead the commercialization or implementation of projects of responsibility.
