  Packaging Engineer (2000031) – Shakopee, MN

  Where the Chemistry Happens  

  This position designs, tests, and implements packaging designs and equipment as part of the New Product Development process and to improve existing packaging designs and processes. This includes providing engineering project management to assure proper design, procurement, and construction of packaging related capital and expense projects, according to regulatory and BASF standards. 

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success 

·  Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, or other technical discipline, and minimum 5+ years of operations, project management, and or engineering experience in the chemical/petrochemical or other similar manufacturing environment.
·  Practical, working knowledge of packaging materials and concepts, chemical processes, packaging equipment, and general project execution is required
·  Ability to participate effectively in a team environment
·  Ability to innovate and implement ideas to improve the cost, schedule, and execution of projects
·  Ability to think strategically to mitigate risks, solve problems and increase value

Core Responsibilities

·  Manage compete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, performance testing, and equipment .
·  Troubleshoot new and existing packaging involving designs, materials, equipment, processes and provide creative, timely and cost-effective solutions. 
·  Develop and analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics, special handling, environmental and safety requirements.   
·  Establish standards and recommend packaging equipment. 
·  Lead project teams and work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and procurement    
·  Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation and storage.  
·  Work closely with procurement to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, standardization, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.  
·  Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs.     
·  Work with the manufacturing department to insure that the packaging designs and equipment are optimized for manufacturability.    
·  Develops project scopes, generates and/or obtains cost estimates, and prepares appropriation funding requests.           
·  Ensures that appropriate project safety reviews are completed as required both before and after approval.        
·  Maintains SAP project data entries, monitors project progress through scheduling and other tools, performs project status reporting, and controls spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.    
·  Monitors and supports construction activities to ensure that projects are completed according to the design deliverables, quality standards, and plant requirements, and that pre-startup safety reviews are conducted.     
·  Understand the importance of process safety as it applies to your job and responsible for contributing to the work processes to achieve improvement in company process safety performance.
