Department Overview

Global Information Security is a fully global team, with over 800 colleagues across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. We support the business in ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability of the firm's information assets, and in implementing world-class security solutions to meet business needs.

The Security Analytics and Development Centre is one of the main pillars across CSO. SADC is providing Access to relevant information and analytics to protect the Bank effectively from internal and external threats. They have the mission to enable GIS/CSO to take faster and more accurate decisions to protect the Bank by leveraging the power and technologies of Big data, relevant information and modern analytics.


Overall purpose of role:

Responsible for driving improvements to business performance across Barclays through advanced analytics and insight. The role holder is responsible for the development of strategies and policies for specific business problems and use cases to improve business performance leveraging data and analysis and delivery of business intelligence and insight that effectively communicates performance to stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities and Skills required:

Core accountabilities

· Building data science models for the Fusion team to help protect the bank
· Responsible for data wrangling in a big data environment
· Responsible for data preparation & feature creation for machine learning tasks
· Responsible for gathering data from multiple sources, dealing with incomplete data, and difficult to match records
· Building REST interfaces which will allow front end developers to access back end data-science work
· Assessing data to determine if it is fit to carry out a task, and suggesting ways of working around issues that we might face
· Willing to work to find solutions and articulate / present their ideas.
· Responsible for scaling up algorithms on big data environment

Stakeholder Management
· Accountable for providing expert consultancy to stakeholders in order to support strategic agenda
· Accountable for communicating proposed strategies and for delivering supporting analysis


People Leadership

· Ensure colleagues reporting into to them on projects, whether permanently or virtually, have a clear understanding of their personal and team vision, mission, goals and objectives and their expected contribution.
· Develop and retain a team of world –class analytical talent
· Assist colleagues within team and across Barclays in developing technical skill, business acumen, project management, statistical analysis and stakeholder management.
· Contribute to the development of a high –performance culture


IT/infrastructure

· Optimise and maintain the company's data and analysis architecture.
· Assist in the investigation and evaluation of new data analysis tools and systems.

Risk and Control Objective:

Your Skills and Qualifications will include

Requirements

· Analytical ability – pro-actively keep their own specialist skills and knowledge at leading edge standard in order to fully fulfil their role. Must have a clear understanding and experience in performing data analysis using a standard statistical package (R/SAS/SPSS/Rapidminer)
· Leadership skills: Ability to provide direction, coaching and motivation in a positive team environment. Ability to work with and in cross-functional and virtual teams. Strong people management skills including the ability to build, motivate and retain a team of strong analytical talent.
· Communication - Effectively and concisely communicate key issues and ideas through correspondences and verbally without supervision. Interface with stakeholders effectively.
· Organisational awareness – Ability to see the ‘whole picture' and recognise the impact and opportunities of activities across the organisation.
· Innovation – Create innovative solutions to analysis requirements
Essential
· Able to work with both Python and Scala, parsing CSV, JSON, XML data
· Not afraid of extracting features out of pseudo-structured data (syslog)
· Comfortable working with Regular expressions
· Good grasp of statistics to perform probabilistic matching of records
· Hands on experience of Spark / MapReduce
· Hands on experience with Pig / Hive
· Any experience with machine learning / statistics would be an advantage
· Completion of a degree in a numerate or semi-numerate subject or significant relevant experience.
· A self-motivated team player who is able to define, structure and prioritize work for self as well as others, but who also has the flexibility and capability to change priorities when circumstances dictate.
· The ability to understand, undertake and commission complex analysis to support strategy testing.
· A proven ability to lead complex analytic projects from inception through to completion.
· Experience working in security data models

Preferred
· Experience of advanced data analytics and insights techniques (eg, predictive, segmentation, recommendation and sentiment analytics, machine learning techniques and leveraging structured and unstructured data)
· Self-starter who naturally assumes ownership of initiatives
· Communication and persuasion skills with the ability to think quickly and package ideas and results in a logical, understandable and compelling way to both technical and non-technical audiences
· Clearly demonstrates a ‘can-do' attitude which successfully overcomes barriers
· A passion for adding value to the business through the production of empirically sounding policies and approaches.
· Passionate about data and modelling, and how this contributes to the business.
· PhD in Machine Learning/Data Science/AI
