Trainee ILS Engineer
Would you like to be involved with the through-life support of one of the most advanced land-based weapon systems in the world? We currently have a vacancy for a Trainee ILS Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
As part of our ILS team, you will be providing Integrated Logistics Support to the M777 Howitzer, which is currently in service with the US, Canadian and Australian armed forces. This will involve influencing and facilitating change, carrying out Reliability Centred Maintenance and other studies, and providing input to a support suite including Technical Manuals, Training Material, spares and tools, to ensure continued operability of M777 for existing and future users.
This role will give you a unique opportunity to be involved with a wide range of activities on an engineering programme, allowing you to have influence at various stages of the life cycle.
This is a Trainee role with a mixture of formal and “on the job” training and development to enable the transition to ILS Engineer within 2 years.
Your main responsibilities will involve:
Preparing supportability reports to facilitate the engineering change process and conducting related Availability, Reliability, and Maintainability (ARM) activities
Preparing course material to support equipment training events
Implementing Engineering Change into ILS documentation
Carrying out analysis including Life Cycle Cost Analysis, Reliability Modelling and Maintenance Task Analysis
Influencing product design by attendance at design reviews, and delivering presentations to the customer
Managing databases related to ILS activity, ensuring compliance with industry standards (DEF STAN/ MIL-STD)
Producing reports from the database when requested by the customer
Your skills and qualifications as a Trainee ILS Engineer must include:
Engineering qualification such as ONC/HNC
Experience in an Engineering role
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
Your skills and qualifications as a Trainee ILS Engineer will ideally include:
Experience in defence, aerospace, or related industry
Experience carrying out manufacture or maintenance of military equipment
Some exposure to reliability maintenance, failure analysis, or similar ILS principles
