Systems Engineer – Computing Infrastructure
An opportunity has arisen for a Systems Engineer – Computing Infrastructure to join BAE Systems at our sites in Frimley (Surrey) or Weymouth (Dorset). The successful Systems Engineer – Computing Infrastructure will be designing the IT, networking, and operating systems infrastructure on which combat systems for all UK submarines are built.
As Systems Engineer – Computing Infrastructure your main responsibilities will involve:
Architectural design and requirement definition through to test and acceptance of:
- A virtualised processing environment
- High resilience Ethernet networks
- Display solutions
- Health monitoring and built in test
Acting as an Infrastructure Architect for implementation and delivery of the Infrastructure onto specific boat types and working with the Infrastructure Design Authority, Product Leaders, and directly with the customer.
Owning the Infrastructure design and development programme for specified infrastructure implementations
Defining and agreeing the designs to enable subcontract procurement
Defining future technology road maps
As Systems Engineer – Computing Infrastructure your skills and qualifications must include:
Background in networks, processing systems, operating systems and/or virtualisation
Systems engineering knowledge
Requirements derivation
As Systems Engineer – Computing Infrastructure your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Experience with CoTS equipment such as Dell, HP and VMware
Experience managing large complex projects
Experience within the defence or large government organisation
Degree or similar in IT, Physics, Electronic or Computer Engineering,

Salary: Up to £45k

We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.
Our Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the submarine combat systems in the UK fleet – essentially, the eyes and ears of each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert programme management and world-class engineering.
