Mechanical Engineer
Would you like to play a key role within the development and delivery of heavy munitions projects? We currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer at our site in Glascoed.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be working within Heavy Munitions who are responsible for the design, development, evaluation, testing and in-service support of various munitions products. You will have responsibility for the coordination of activities undertaken by specialist engineers as well as carrying out the project-specific activities defined by project plans/ tasks to develop these products.
This role will provide you with the unique opportunity to work with the design of munitions, as well as the chance to witness the product trials. You will have a really broad scope of work with good variation of day-to-day activities and involvement across the whole product lifecycle. There are a number of different routes available for future career progression, where the provision of training can be tailored towards your individual aspirations.
Your main responsibilities as a Mechanical Engineer will involve:
Assisting product design and system engineering activities for new and legacy products
The configuration and maintenance of engineering Bills of Materials (BOM) for products
Facilitating product design and evaluation/ down selection e.g. Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
Process design, definition and critical evaluation e.g. Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Process Control Plans (PCP).
Coordination of theoretical simulations e.g. (thermal, structural, fluids and aerodynamics)
The management of suppliers, both internal and external, to ensure that development activities are completed to time and schedule
Lifecycle management (contributing towards design reviews) from concept to disposal
Contribution to the Risk Management process
Working as part of an integrated project team, including regular engagement with project management, procurement (supply chain) and operations
Your skills and qualifications as a Mechanical Engineer:
Essential:
Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent qualification or experience within mechanical engineering
Demonstrable mechanical engineering experience
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and models
Capability/ experience of producing high-quality technical reports
Desirable:
A working knowledge of systems engineering and engineering design
Working knowledge of risk management
Knowledge of munitions design and manufacture
Familiarity with the Life Cycle Management (LCM) process

Salary: £34,000
