Principal Systems Engineer (UWTC)

Would you like to work on Future Submarine programmes within the Underwater Systems (UWS) department? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer (UWTC), Underwater Transmit Capability, at our site in Frimley, Surrey.

Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is a business area that continues to grow to meet the demands of design, development and supply of technology leading complex systems into the In-Service, Astute Class and future submarine programmes. As a Principal Engineer, you will have the opportunity to interface with various suppliers and internal teams and take technical equipment into a maturing platform.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Systems Engineer (UWTC) will involve:

UWTC Sonar system design and development, working under the direction of the Sonar Systems Outboard Engineering Manager

Providing support to the design and development of future sonar systems on submarine platforms, including liaising with subcontractors and customers on technical issues

Providing support to general UWS projects including document management & reviews, engineering governance and project lifecycle reviews

Developing an understanding of the wider UWS product and how it is designed and shaped

Supporting the wider UWS team in requirements generation and technical acceptance

Undertaking requirements generation and technical acceptance, working with the customer to set out requirements

Participating in studies for future sonar technologies

Working away on customer and BAE Systems sites

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Systems Engineer (UWTC) will ideally include:

Experience of engineering systems design lifecycle would be essential

The ability to understand and manage complex physical designs (e.g. physical models, cabling data and interface documentation) would be essential

Background in Underwater Systems would be desirable

Experience of systems integration would be desirable

Experience liaising and working with industrial partners/customers would be desirable

The ability to understand and apply design control and configuration processes would be desirable

You will be outgoing, focused and friendly and will be a pragmatic individual with the ability to identify problems and build relationships with other Subject Matter Experts in order to resolve them.

Location: Frimley, Surrey

This role will require travel to other sites but no more than a couple of days a month.
