Principal Test Engineer
Would you like to play a key role in the successful integration of combat system infrastructure into the Submarine flotilla? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Test Engineer at our site in Ash Vale.
As a Principal Test Engineer, you will be specifying and performing qualification testing of the submarine combat system infrastructure in accordance with project schedules, processes and standards. You will also be identifying innovative test and acceptance strategies and tools.
This role will enable you to work with state of the art technologies on one of the world's most complex engineering projects.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Test Engineer will involve:
Developing integrated test and evaluation plans, including specifying test environments, qualification tests and test procedures to deliver product acceptance evidence
Investigating observations and problems revealed during testing, recommending resolution action and identification of solutions
Developing roadmaps to facilitate the incorporation of new technologies into the infrastructure test methods and environment
Compiling formal test reports detailing the outcome of test events
Managing system requirements, including definition, decomposition and compilation of compliance evidence
Supporting equipment and software integration trials on the submarine platform
Supporting bid and tendering activities for infrastructure projects, including task definitions, estimates and programme schedules
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Test Engineer :
Essential:
Experience of specification, planning and management of testing and certifying complex systems, including definition of test strategies, scenarios, scripts, environments and tools
Experience of COTS infrastructure, real-time systems, network and switching protocols, and virtualised network environments and VMware
Experience of test automation and test management tools - Experience with eggPlant would be a distinct advantage
Requirements management experience and use of accompanying toolsets such as DOORS
Desirable:
Degree/HND or equivalent in an engineering-related/IT discipline
Proven track record in problem analysis and devising solutions to problems encountered during testing
Experience of the test, qualification and certification of products in a military surface ship, submarine or aircraft environment
Knowledge of computing systems and software engineering methods, such as real time networks and storage systems
Experience of Systems Engineering, military equipment and resilient real-time systems

Salary: £45,000 commensurate will skills and experience

Maritime Submarines – Combat Systems

We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.
Our Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the submarine combat systems in the UK fleet – essentially, the eyes and ears of each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert programme management and world-class engineering.
