Principal Systems Engineer – Requirements

Would you like an interesting and challenging position within Combat Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer - Requirements at our site in either Frimley or Weymouth.

As a Principal Systems Engineer you will be working with cutting edge technology, applying IT principles to a defence platform and gaining exposure to the entire systems engineering lifecycle.

This role will give you the opportunity to work on platforms of national importance, in a company with a healthy order book which offers stability and personal development opportunities.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Systems Engineer – Requirements will involve:

Managing tasks on DOORS databases in accordance with the BAE Systems corporate scheme including set up, population and maintenance

Leading requirements management tasks, including requirements elicitation; capturing and input into DOORS; taking into account the broader Combat Systems functional and non-functional requirements for all submarine classes

Supporting the design and capture of the verification & validation test cases necessary to achieve task acceptance

Ensuring full traceability within the DOORS database from requirements through design to acceptance

Collating and recording evidence to support task acceptance; providing requirements and acceptance metricised progress reports

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer – Requirements:

Essential:

Degree qualified or equivalent experience

Experience of developing and maintaining coherent sets of requirements and acceptance criteria for complex systems

A working knowledge of DOORS

Desirable:

Experience of Requirements Engineering in a Naval Platform arena (Submarines / Surface Ships - e.g. Navigation/Command & Control / Sonar) ideally, or within other military platforms

Conversant in the use of MS Office packages and IBM Rational Publishing

You will be able to communicate effectively at all levels with internal and external stakeholders through verbal and written briefings and technical reports. You will also be self- motivated, with the ability to work under your initiative within a multi-discipline team.

Maritime Submarines – Combat Systems

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.

Our Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the submarine combat systems in the UK fleet – essentially, the eyes and ears of each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert programme management and world-class engineering.
