Principal Mechanical Engineer

Would you like to be part of an exciting challenge focussed on controlling the manoeuvrability of the latest submarines?

We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer at our site in Barrow

As a Principal Engineer, you will be working within a team responsible for Safety Control Systems at SIL (Safety Integration Level) - Level 3.

This role will provide you with an opportunity to strengthen your innovative technical skills as part of the steering & diving group, responsible for the technologically advanced mechanical instruments controlling the boat

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Mechanical Engineer will involve:

Making a major contribution to the Hydrodynamic and Hydrostatic controls systems within the submarine

Responsibilities will include the capture of requirements, system design / specification and close engagement with suppliers.

Specifically designing, developing and locating the mechanical instruments required on board

Being a part of a larger electrical and mechanical project engineering team with approximately 100+ engineers.

Your skills and qualifications

Experience of working on a design programme , ideally in the maritime sector

Degree Qualified in STEM related experience or substantial Engineering Design expertise

Mechanical or Mechatronic bias with a demonstrable track record delivering model validation and design

A good level of hydraulics experience is essential

Knowledge of Safety principles and processes

An appreciation on Control Theory and safety involved systems is desirable
