Principal Engineer – Mechanical

Would you like to be part of a team shaping the development of a new generation of nuclear submarine? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Mechanical at our site in Barrow.

As a Principal Engineer - Mechanical, you will be delivering a new design of Submarine into build. Working on the continuation of the design of mechanical systems, allowing build, test and commissioning of a new submarine platform.

This role will provide you with excellent career progression opportunities and you will be fully supported in your development within BAE Systems.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Mechanical will involve:

Executing, evaluating, delivering and managing engineering and/or cross functional tasks or programmes of work

Being responsible for the production of mechanical systems diagrams (e.g. air, hydraulics, sea water, cooling water systems) and technical specifications for pumps, compressors etc

Supporting the transverse teams (safety, ILS and human factors) in producing the documentation that underpins the design

Liaising with internal and external customers as required, ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated, where appropriate, and agreed

Working with BAE supply chain and equipment suppliers to deliver equipment that meets customer requirements

Undertaking peer reviews or checking/verification tasks as directed and providing realistic programme status, identify problem areas and implement agreed recovery plans

Providing support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical argument clearly, logically and simply

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Demonstrable experience in technical report writing

Chartered Engineer or working towards

Degree qualified within a relevant engineering discipline

Desirable:

Mechanical engineering background

Experience of producing schematics/diagrams

You will possess excellent communication skills having the ability to liaise with both internal / external suppliers and customers in a professional manner. You will have good attention to detail and high level of accuracy is required to complete technical reports and documentation.

Salary: £ 37,953+
