Principal Engineer (Human Factors)

Would you like to work on one of the largest human factors outfit in the UK, optimising operability and habitability of the submarine platform? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Human Factors) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer (Human Factors), you will be producing human factors analysis, assessment and user trials reports in accordance with the detailed human factors plan.

Typical activities will include:

· Human Machine Interface (HMI) Assessment

· Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Design

· Workspace Assessment

· Manpower Development

· Task, Workload and Human Reliability Analyses

· User Trials

This role will provide you with the opportunity to liaise with a variety of different people within the business and have an influence on the design and build stages of the Submarine platform.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Human Factors) will involve:

Conducting various human factors analysis and user trail assessments, working alongside subject matter experts, including current and ex-RN submariners

Producing human factors reports

Providing general advice to the project and customer

Informing design decisions

Working within a well-established team of Human Factors Engineers but will be given specific responsibilities to deliver your expertise into a variety of aspects of the Submarine design

Your skills and qualifications:

Degree or equivalent experience in Human Factors or Ergonomics

Experience in Human Factors in academia, military or industry preferred

Demonstrable experience across spatial arrangement and systems design on various and relevant projects

Working on a project of similar large scale, complex design and stakeholder group

Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership - Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) preferred

Manufacturing and/or Military Industry experience - desirable

Knowledge of defence standard 00-251 and its associated technical guides – desirable
