Principal Engineer – Capability & Training (DOORS)
Would you like to use your existing knowledge of the DOORS requirements management tool to improve the capability of a growing business of 800+ employees? BAE Systems is currently recruiting a Principal Engineer – Capability & Training to join our team in Frimley, Surrey.
As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for establishing best practice of our toolsets and managing the toolset training needs of the Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) part of our business. This will include designing training material, delivering face to face and e-learning sessions in the use of DOORS.
There is a huge demand within the business for employees to improve their knowledge of this engineering toolset. This is an excellent opportunity to be at the vanguard of a long term, challenging project to improve employees' ability and understanding of this business-critical system.
As a Principal Engineer – Capability & Training, your main responsibilities will include:
Provide in depth DOORS subject matter expertise from an end-to-end requirements management perspective
Managing and delivering training for engineering toolsets (specifically DOORS) across the Complex Systems and Support business (CS&S)
Developing course content, managing methods of delivery, and providing instructor led courses, both face to face and through e-learning
Acting as SME in the engineering toolsets and providing expertise to business transformation
Liaising with Human Resources to ensure capture of training records for all employees
Where required, deputising for colleagues by supporting training development and delivery for enterprise toolsets
Occassional travel to other sites to deliver training courses
Identify improvements to user processes and toolsets observing lean principles
Solve functional issues with enterprise toolsets and identify procedural or corrective solutions as required to drive and endorse best practice
As a Principal Engineer - Capability & Training, your skills and qualifications must include:
Expert level of knowledge in the end-to-end usage of DOORS for requirements management (at user and administration level)
Capable of, and willing to teach training courses in the use of DOORS to a range of users within the business
Knowledge of Microsoft office (particularly PowerPoint and Excel)
Knowledge of drawing tools such as Microsoft Visio
Willingness to travel infrequently to other UK sites
As a Principal Engineer – Capability & Training, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Previous experience in a training delivery role
Knowledge of enterprise toolsets such as SAP or Teamcenter

Complex Systems and Support:
Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers. Our team is responsible for system design, build and/or procurement of the major electronic and mechanical systems on a submarine, as well as provision of test, integration and support services.
Innovation is central to our DNA and has produced the Common Combat System (CCS) to address the customer's affordability, technology and capability challenges. It is based on commercial off-the-shelf technology (COTS) coupled with bespoke military hardware and software and is being progressively rolled-out into the UK's Submarine flotilla.
