Principal Electrical Engineer

Would you like to be a part of the nation's most complex and high profile maritime projects? We currently have a number of vacancies for Principal Electrical Engineers at Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you could get the unique opportunity to work on the Type 45 Destroyers, Type 26 Frigates or the Queen Elizabeth class Aircraft Carrier. You will be carrying out the development and delivery of specific electrical engineering work packages associated with the power and propulsion system engineering aspects on a designated project. You will be responsible for ensuring the electrical tasks undertaken for the power and propulsion systems solution are fully integrated and consistent with the wider platform electrical solution.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Electrical Engineer will involve:

Conducting electrical system design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality to meet project and business milestones

Conducting activities including feasibility studies, research, design development and solution delivery to meet the specified customer requirements

Drafting, vetting and editing technical reports or other documents to ensure that technical findings can be successfully communicated with recipients

Preparing and submitting technical proposals and tenders as directed by the Bid Manager in order to provide costed proposals for future work

Ensuring solution integration with other engineering functions involved with a particular programme of work to ensure all aspects of the electrical system design are considered

Liaising with MOD establishments, test facilities, sub-contractors and customers, as required, to satisfy the needs of project or the business

Supervising undergraduates or junior staff members assigned for training to assist in the development of their knowledge and skills

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Electrical Engineer:

Essential:

You will be qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in electrical engineering or closely related discipline

Electrical engineering experience gained from a relevant complex engineering environment/industry such as: utilities, renewables, Royal Navy, power generation or manufacturing

Electrical design /systems engineering experience

Desirable:

Electrical engineering experience gained from the field of naval marine power generation, distribution and propulsion systems

Professional registered status such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) (or operating at Chartered level and working toward registration dependant on your level of experience)

We are looking for a strong team player. You must be comfortable interacting with subject matter experts, and other engineering departments, relating to your delegated system/project. Excellent communication skills, alongside the ability to build relationships with stakeholders is key to succeed in this role.
