CNC Machinist

We currently have an opportunity for 2 x CNC Machinists to join our Weapon Systems UK business for BAE Systems based at our Barrow in Furness site.

As a CNC Machinist, you will be working within the Operations Artillery function where you will be responsible for setting and operating of 3 & 5 axis CNC Mill/Turn machine centres and a variety of manual machines & processes including milling, turning, boring & grinding.

Reporting to the Machine Team Leader, you will deliver on all aspects of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People in accordance with the Weapon Systems UK Business Management Systems to ensure daily operations targets are met.

Your main responsibilities as a CNC Machinist will involve:

Working safely at all times, complying with Health and Safety and other relevant regulations and guidelines

Following the relevant manufacturing instructions, drawings and other Quality standards/specifications

Working in accordance with specified safety procedures and instructions i.e. risk assessments & COSHH assessments

Maintaining a good standard of housekeeping with in the area

Reporting any hazards, near misses and incidents in a timely manner in line with company procedures

Ensuring daily safety checks on equipment have been completed through daily process confirmations

Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering and other support functions to ensure best method of manufacture has been utilised

Your skills and qualifications as a CNC Machinist:

Extensive knowledge of operating 3 & 5 axis CNC Mill / Turn machining centres.

Knowledge of Siemens, Mazatol & Fanuc machine controls.

Knowledge of machining techniques & relevant tool selection.

Able to interrogate and interpret engineering drawings.

Awareness of PUWER & Risk Assessment.

Must have served a recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering relevant to a machine shop or have a City & Guilds, HNC or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering

What we're looking for in you:

You will work on your own initiative and be confident setting up and programming the machines. You will have the ability to follow manufacturing Instruction and will be experienced using machine shop measuring equipment.

Salary: £29,333
