Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property and Technology Law

Would you like to work in a fast paced, varied in house role which also offers a good work life balance? We currently have a vacancy for a Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property and Technology Law at our site in Farnborough.

As a Legal Counsel, you will be a key part of the IP Team, providing BAE Systems functions and businesses a world class IP service to BAE Systems, effectively engaging to assist with the management of IP portfolios, and provide advice on intellectual property issues including drafting and negotiating IP contract terms.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to gain excellent exposure across the company and to work on interesting and unique IP and Technology across BAE Systems.

Your main responsibilities as a Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property and Technology Law will involve:

Promoting IP awareness and compliance with IT regulation and process within the business across all functions

Implementing BAE Systems Intellectual Property Policy within the business

Building effective relationships at all levels within the business so as to become an integral part of the business value proposition

Leveraging IP expertise providing complete IP solutions that deliver maximum value to the business, and providing advice on commercial IP matters, drafting and negotiating IP contract terms relevant to the business

Supporting lobbying of MOD and wider UK government lobbying activities and ensuring operating business act in accordance with BAE Systems stated positions

Your skills and qualifications as a Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property and Technology Law:

Essential:

Qualified solicitor or barrister with proven expertise on intellectual property matters or a qualified patent attorney (preferably a fully qualified European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Attorney)

Experience in respect of drafting, negotiating and advising on IP commercial contracts

Demonstrate a strong level of commercial awareness

Commercial Law experience/Knowledge, as well as experience of corporate law, disputes or regulatory matters

Interest in technology and ability to research and understand complex technical issues is essential

Desirable:

A technical degree

Good understanding of trade mark and patent prosecution law

Experience of defence sector IP contracting and commercial law

Experience of IP defence sector and/ or R&D contracting in international markets such as KSA, Australia, India and US

Software and IT contracting experience

In house Legal Counsel experience

You will have outstanding communication skills and be able to work collaboratively within a team environment. You must have high level negotiation and influencing skills to be able to advise on contracts in line with mitigating risks to the business.
