Computational Electro-Magnetic Modelling Engineer

Would you like to work on specialist modelling activities for our Military Air and Information (MAI) business? We currently have a vacancy for a Computational Electro-Magnetic (CEM) Modelling Engineer at our site in Filton.

As a Computational Electro-Magnetic Modelling Engineer, you will be working within the Computational Engineering Electromagnetics Group. This team research, develop and maintain computational electromagnetic tools used to understand electromagnetic effects on various BAE Systems platforms. In addition to tool development, the group is regularly called upon to address specific engineering problems by applying their electro-magnetic expertise using a range of codes.

This role will provide you with the challenge of solving complex problems, as well as the chance to see your codes used on real applications. You will also have the freedom to work creatively, whilst developing your skills in a niche area.

Your main responsibilities as a Computational Electro-Magnetic Modelling Engineer will involve:

Leading the development of certain CEM software codes with some work applying the software to industrial problems, interpreting the results and presenting (written and orally) the results to customers

Maintaining and developing codes using techniques such as finite difference time domain and fast level multiple methods to solve Maxwell's equations as well as asymptotic techniques such as physical optics. Application areas include Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC), installed antenna modelling, radar scattering and others

Managing and providing technical leadership on development projects, ensuring that they are delivered on time and to cost, whilst incorporating leading edge CEM techniques and software implementations

Leading liaisons with internal stakeholders to plan future code development roadmaps based on requirements and emerging CEM and computing capability (occasional UK travel required)

Maintaining technical capabilities by identifying emerging CEM trends and interactions with global CEM community

Maintaining suitable records and archives for projects to allow reuse of work where appropriate and conforming to mandated quality and document management processes

Your skills and qualifications as a Computational Electro-Magnetic Modelling Engineer :

Essential:

Experience of developing in Fortran 90 or C/C++

Working knowledge of Matlab

Demonstrable numerical modelling experience such as, method of moments algorithm / Finite Element (FE) modelling

Desirable:

Experience of using CST Microwave Studio

Experience of taking technical leadership

Background in EMC/ radar scattering/ antenna modelling
