Job description

Our Global Corporate and Specialty (GCS) is a general insurance (GI) business that provides insurance solutions for large corporate and specialty products for commercial entities. Its core product lines are Property, Casualty, Auto, Surety, and Equipment Breakdown (EBI).

We have a new opportunity in our downtown Toronto King Street location, in the Technical Underwriting team for an Underwriting Insights Analyst. Reporting to the Head of GCS Pricing, you will manage Underwriting KPIs and provide forward looking insights into the Global Corporate and Specialties book of business, and competitive position, which will enable stakeholders to rapidly adapt and will drive actions to inform business decisions, improve profitability, growth and retention. 

Accountabilities:

You will be accountable for monitoring the quality of our Insurance business, and will deliver regular insights into any trends, changes or challenges which may impact future performance and position in the market.  Activities will include:

  • Compile, analyse and communicate the health of the book of business.
  • Identify emerging trends which will impact the current book either adversely or positively.
  • Monitor the impact of business decision including rate or underwriting changes to ensure the impact is in line with expectations.
  • Monitoring the market position of Aviva’s pricing relative to key competitor’s impact on regular business.
  • Work with analytics group to develop robust and automated monitoring framework
  • Continually improve the generation of Analysis in terms of length of time to create the reports and the accuracy.
  • Support regional pricing and business development teams in understanding their mix of business and advising on adjustments as needed
  • Support regional pricing and business development teams in analyzing retention, growth, profitability and competitive position with an objective to improve business quality
  • Work the regional pricing teams and business development and other stakeholders as to the effectiveness of the analysis and gather feedback.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in Mathematics, Statistics or Actuarial Science
  • ACAS designation
  • 2-5 years Actuarial/Analytics experience
  • Ability to distil large amounts of data into key insights and areas of opportunity.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in a fast paced environment, while adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Highly-tuned analytical skills with an insatiable desire to probe, question, validate and challenge to ensure accurate and insightful analysis.
  • Ability to influence effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to listen effectively and communicate clear, concise to target audiences.
  • Hands-on as well as managerial experience in scripting/coding including in modern languages like Python and R
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across the business function.
  • Change agent skills with the ability and appetite to drive continuous improvement in cross functional finance processes and insights to better support the business.
