We are looking for a permanent Test Engineer to join Aviva Ireland's growing Digital programme program.

Aviva Ireland is beginning a journey to embed digital technologies in all our customer interactions across all communication channels. We strongly believe that high quality software engineering and craftsmanship is vital to achieving this and we want passionate software engineering professionals to help transform Aviva into the world’s biggest fintech organisation.

The past number of years has seen Aviva transform it’s approach to product development embracing innovation events, agile and lean software methodologies to embed a test and learn culture across the organisation.

About Role

We are working hard to build the software and architecture to enable this business need and we want you to help us. You will be working in a newly created agile space specifically designed to deliver on Aviva’s digital first strategy aiming to become the easiest insurer in Ireland to do business with.

You’re passionate about Software Quality and have explored automation test frameworks and tools, working with some professionally and keeping abreast of others. You’ve had the chance to compare how they work for different problems and have opinions about what works best in what situation. You’re also completely comfortable working on automation as well as testing and exploring the software manually.

What you’ll do


You’ll be responsible for:


• Enabling our agile teams deliver code to production
• Encouraging and assisting team members with writing highly testable code
• Work with the test architect to build on the existing automation framework
• Perform quality assurance activities on deliverables across the lifecycle including all test deliverables, within scope of the role
• Provide technical/professional expertise within own area/community. This includes functional testing, non functional testing, BDD or test automation.
• Analyse results, challenge plans & recommend revised & improved solutions
• Be responsible for assigned business or project issues, requiring investigation & use own judgement to resolve
• Promote and support best practice, assisting other roles where required
• Build & manage relationships with stakeholders
• Contribute towards shaping & development of their profession, including active participation in the community
• Contributing to our culture of continual innovation
• Understand and adhere to application roadmaps, but challenge when appropriate.

• Working with your agile team colleagues, your technical leaders and the Scrum Master and Product Owner to build quality solutions that are capable of long term testability and growth whilst delivering focused, value driven changes to a high quality standard
• Delivering (and influencing the delivery of) the best outcomes for every Aviva customer.
• Collaborate with your peers, share your experiences and being generous with you knowledge.
• Ensure that the capabilities of the products that you engineer are focused on our customers.

About You

We’re particularly interested in :

• Technical expertise in automated testing and associated frameworks (Junit, Cucumber, Jenkins, Spring).
• Awareness of industry direction and trends in quality assurance
• Development using TDD/BDD techniques creating Unit tests, Functional, SIT, Regression testing
• Solid understanding of OOP. Solving problems efficiently and quickly
• Exposure to Continuous Integration, Agile methodology, Development within Frameworks
• Some experience working with following tools: Jenkins, HP UFT, Jira, Git, BDD, Cucumber, Selenium
• Hands on experience with working on high volume systems
• Experience of working in large, multi sited teams with a shared codebase, and designing & building for a consistently great customer experience
• Negotiating, influencing, prioritisation, effectively challenging and gaining commitment
• Experienced working within an agile environment.
• Experience of Network Protocols and Web Technologies (e.g. html , Ajax, TCPIP, HTTP, SSL, certificates, web servers) desirable but not essential.
