Job description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a lawyer to join our Aviva UK General Insurance (UKGI) Legal team.

Our Legal team is a busy and strategically important to our business' core goal of helping our customers, supporting all areas of UKGI's diverse business. The team advises our UKGI business on a wide variety of matters including the full suite of UK general insurance products & propositions, their distribution through a range of channels, any contentious issues relating to the UKGI business and all UK employment matters.

This is a role you can develop and grow in, gaining broad legal and commercial experience, developing relationships with colleagues within and outside our UKGI team and building your understanding of Aviva and the insurance industry more generally. The role will involve working closely with senior colleagues within the Aviva business, Risk and Governance functions and with partners/brokers/third parties as required.

You will be joining a committed and collaborative team based in Norwich, however travel to our other offices in London, Perth, Bristol and York may be required from time to time.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with members of the team and other teams within Aviva's Legal function.
  • Providing high quality, pragmatic legal advice for the UKGI areas on a broad range of projects, products and propositions.
  • Building proven relationships with a number of key business partners within Aviva.
  • Identifying and mitigating legal risks and raising key risks and issues to the Senior Lawyers, Director of Legal or General Counsel of UKI, as appropriate.
  • Providing input into board, committee and other papers where required.
  • Supporting Aviva's strategies.

Skills & Experience required

  • A qualified lawyer with in-house and/or private practice experience.
  • Possesses an eye for detail as well as a commercial, pragmatic attitude.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in contract law is essential.
  • Strong relationship management skills and confidence in dealing with clients and senior colleagues.
  • Quick to adjust work priorities to meet the changing demands of both the market and internal partners.
  • A collaborator and a dedicated teammate.
  • Any experience and knowledge of insurance or other regulated financial services in the UK and the law and regulation that relates to them would be helpful but is not essential.

What will you get for this role?

  • Annual salary of £35,000 - £40,000 depending on skills, qualifications and experience.
