Agile Scrum Master, Digital Delivery

  • Markham, CANADA
  • IT development

Job description

Individually we are people, but together we are Aviva. Individually these are just words, but together they are our Values – Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence.

At Aviva Canada, as we look to invest over $100 million in redesigning the way we do business, it’s not lost on us that IT is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why ensuring we have the most sophisticated technologies and that we keep bringing in the brightest and best tech talent is of the utmost importance. Key priorities in IT include looking at how we can be more streamlined, deliver forward-thinking service and support our people. Key strategic areas of investment include Data Science and Digital. All of which means you can expect phenomenal exposure to exciting and diverse projects as well as an opportunity to make a huge difference.

In addition to investing in technology, we are investing in how we deliver, including acceleration of our Agile adoption, DevOps capability and Automated Testing coverage. Scrum Masters are key members of our delivery squads and support adoption of and adherence to these approaches, developing and continuously improving Agile capability and maturity in the team.

We are seeking a dedicated Scrum Master who’s primary purpose is to ensure their teams inspire change delivery as effectively as possible with quality and innovation in line with Agile values and principles.

This is a facilitative servant leadership role. The Scrum Master should seek to promote self-organization within the team, i.e. the team collectively optimizes itself to achieve the defined Sprint and project goals, rather than the Scrum Master acting as authority and coordinator. The Scrum Master ensures the path is clear for the team, removing blockers, facilitating discussions, enabling seamless communications and working with the Product Owner to clarify the Product backlog ahead.

This role will be part of the Agile Centre of Excellence (COE) and primarily work with Digital squads that have a focus on helping Aviva build out its direct to customer business and expand its digital footprint. The teams are playing a pivotal role in shaping our future technology roadmap for advancing the direct to customer business via digital self-serve.

·  Collect and communicate all vital metrics and propose new ones in the spirit of constant empiricism.
·  Deliver coordinated change across multiple teams and platforms.
·  Ensure quality is driven into all aspects of the delivery lifecycle and defects are driven out as early as possible.
·  Solve problems and remove impediments to delivery (in line with policy, process and other guidelines) to get things done.
·  Work with the team and encourage team members to find solutions to their issues themselves.
·  Actively participate in the Aviva Scrum Master community across Aviva CIO and beyond
·  Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, managing or dictating the work.
·  Support the team in using agile planning and development tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence)
·  Experiment with new practices and frameworks to improve team outcomes.

·  Knowledge of widely successful Agile techniques and software development processes: Test Automation, Continuous Integration, Pairing, DevOps, Refactoring, ATDD/TDD/BDD, Extreme Programming (XP).
·  Self motivation and ability to learn and explore new insights.
