The opportunity

 

We are looking for an Operational Technology (OT) Architect to work with a major utilities client in Scotland on a long-term programme to migrate remote sites and top-end telemetry and control systems to next-generation technology.

 

The OT specialist will be Atos’ subject matter expert in the area of telemetry, industrial control and Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) and will work in a multi-disciplinary team comprising programme and project managers, technology consultants, systems and solutions architects and specialist networks and communications architects.

·  Technical focus and drive – be the focal point of the component design and implementation within the Operational Technology area
·  Vision and innovation – identify and champion solution improvements managed through project change
·  Commercial awareness - understand the impact of design changes in the context of the end to end solution
·  Quality control and assurance - Alignment of design to build
·  Strongly self-motivated, showing accountability and responsibility
·  Highly articulate with quality documentation and communication skills.
·  Compliance with the Atos Unified Engineering Methodologies and Processes

 

The role is based in the Glasgow – Edinburgh central belt and candidates should be available for travel to client sites throughout Scotland and other Atos locations in the UK.

 

Skills we can’t do without:

 

·  Knowledge of the end-end implementation of telemetry, command and control in the context of SCADA and situational awareness environments;
·  Remote site automation, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and local SCADA systems
·  Telecommunications systems used for remote site connectivity and in particular the legacy implementation of voiceband modems in the context of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and loggers which are common in the utilities industry
·  Protocols used in end-end serial communications for telemetry, command and control including MODBUS, DNP3 and WITS
·  The strategy behind and impact of the retirement of the UK Public Switched Telephone Network
·  Radio technologies including scanning radio, LTE cellular, Narrowband, and satellite communications
·  Principles of technical solution design at both high and low levels

 

Skills we’d like:

 

·  Specific experience on RTU/PLC configuration, using manufacturers such as Xylem, Regin and Rockwell/Allen Bradley
·  Specific experience in the end-end design and implementation of SCADA systems such as Emerson, Schneider or Iconics
·  Knowledge of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, communications, cloud data repository and management systems including next generation protocols such as OPC(UA), MQTT and AMQP
·  Knowledge of systems and processes used in water treatment facilities in the UK
