1 Job description Our Java developers are responsible for building and supporting Java applications. This includes anything between complex groups of back-end services and their client-end (desktop and mobile) counterparts. The primary responsibility will be to design and develop these applications, and to coordinate with the rest of the team working on different layers of the infrastructure. Thus, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and product quality is essential. We use the Scrum/Agile method for our project management. The secondary responsibility will be to design, develop and maintain databases for above mentioned applications. 2 Responsibilities Your responsibilities are to, among others: · Translate application storyboards and use cases into functional applications · Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Java code · Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications · Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems · Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization · Contribute to maintenance and deployment of world class software covering front-end and back-end components. 1 Skills 1.1 Programming skills For your main job as a Java developer, we ask a: · Solid understanding of o Object-oriented programming o Writing reusable libraries o Unit tests and automated testing o Code versioning tools, like Git and SVN · Basic understanding of o Fundamental design principles behind scalable applications o Concurrency patterns o Class loading mechanism o Embedded databases o JVM and its limitations, weaknesses and workarounds o Web application frameworks, like Play and Spark · Familiarity with o Various design and architectual patterns o Concepts of MVC, JDBC and RESTful o Various web development technologies (JSON, NodeJS, JQuery, JavaScript, web services) o Tools associated with Java development (Eclipse, IntelliJ) o Java GUI frameworks o UNIX environments o Build tools, like Ant, Maven and Gradle o Continuous integration Please note that knowledge of C# .NET is a plus. 1.2 Database skills Because of our extensive use of databases, we also ask, in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and/or MySQL, a (solid) understanding of (where applicable): · Database design and implementation o Tables and data types o Keys and indexes (primary, foreign, (non-)unique, (non-)clustered) o Triggers o Views o Functions o Stored procedures · Database management and maintenance o Reporting (querying of tables, knowledge of SSRS is a plus) o Replication and back-ups o Security (logins, users, rights management) o Maintenance plans o SSIS packages 2 Education and languages We ask that you have a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Computer Science. Also, you need to be fluent in English and Dutch. Please note that knowledge of French is a plus.
