About the role

ARM is seeking highly motivated verification and software engineers capable of building advanced SystemVerilog UVM verification IP to prototype the latest cache coherent interface protocols and support in-house IP verification teams. ARM needs to deliver high quality hardware IP to our customers. The complex modelling and testing required by the IP verification teams protects our customers’ schedules and investment as well as protecting ARM’s own reputation in the industry and ability to progress to new and more advanced products.

This role provides a unique opportunity to develop an understanding of how interface protocols are designed, and be a key part of their modelling for verification. It will broaden his or her established software skills within a world class hardware technology environment and offer further opportunities to move into other verification or software oriented roles.

Job Requirements

What will I be accountable for?

·  Development of UVM and synthesisable VIP tools that can be integrated into product teams verification environments
·  Support to product teams for bug fixes and integration issues
·  Validation of the completed VIP tools in test bench environments and using formal proof kits
·  Regular communication with internal customers to ensure alignment
·  Planning and scheduling workload according to business priorities
·  Adherence to business processes, especially in relation to regulatory environments

What skills, experience, and qualifications do I need?

Our verification IP software engineers are a key part of the delivery of our UVM verification IP to other project teams. They have responsibility for the architecting, authoring and implementing models, checkers and functional coverage for the latest interface protocols. We work closely with the specification authors to spot potential issues at the specification level and look for creative ways to model, stress and break the architecture. We are also heavily involved in the mechanics of maturing the specification, debugging issues and working with multiple project teams to keep their project moving.

This role would be based in the Sheffield design centre as part of the VIP team and requires the following:

Characteristics and Requirements

·  University degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related subject
·  Demonstratrable understanding and experience of object-oriented design and programming
·  Experience of Perl, Python or other scripting language
·  Experience of formal verification techniques
·  Experience of hardware modelling or other exposure to RTL-level hardware design or verification.
·  Experience of working within regulated environments (e.g. ISO26262 compliance) or with requirements tracing.
·  Experienced in a frontline development environment – building products to meet demanding customer requirements.
·  Excellent communication and written skills in English
·  Ability to work well individually and as part of a team
·  Professional approach to work
·  Flair for lateral thinking and problem solving
·  Self-motivated and willing to accept new challenges

Desirable Skills & Experience

·  Experience of architecting and implementing SystemVerilog classes, coverage groups and random constraints
·  Understanding of the AMBA5 CHI cache coherent interface protocol
·  Experience of writing UVM based verification IP for the AMBA5 CHI cache coherent interface protocol
·  Have a working knowledge of Atlassian JIRA and Bamboo, as continuous integration flows
