ARM is looking for talented and enthusiastic students to spend their industrial placement year in our Systems Implementation Group. Successful candidates will take ownership for development and deployment of a suite of cutting edge tools to gather, manage, and visualise a wide range of metrics generated in our development of latest IP products and related technologies.

The software developer industrial placement role is ideal for those who are interested in the world of digital electronic and ASIC design. The role will offer lots of first hand opportunities to see how the next generation of SoCs are designed, whist developing their software skills on a full-scale software development working in Sheffield.

We are interested in someone with enthusiasm, someone who can work with the talented engineering team to create industry-leading solutions to complex problems.

The successful candidate will be required to have good communication skills as they will be collaborating with ARM teams around the globe. Although they will be collaborating on this project with many engineers it will be expected of them to take the lead on the parts of the project: gathering the requirement, developing a specification, and developing the final code - leaning on the experience of fellow engineers when required.

Job Requirements

Are you a good fit for ARM?

In order to be considered, you need to be on a relevant degree course (e.g. Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Maths/Physics), or have demonstrable computer software knowledge.



Though the project will be centred on ARM’s IP products and their silicon implementation a detailed knowledge isn’t required; though an interest would be useful.

The successful candidate should be passionate about software development and capable of designing creative, reliable and user-friendly software systems.

The project will touch upon many programming languages; any experience in these or similar languages would be very beneficial but not essential.

- The majority of the data processing will be done in scripted languages TCL/Python/R.

- The displaying of the metrics will be web-based, using a data visualisation library based on D3.

- Finally; working with our spark cluster using scala/Python to generate additional metrics from our data.
