Team:

The Trading Finance team is a team of financial professionals that drives business performance by effectively business partnering across the Commercial teams. The team partners key stakeholders to make informed and effective commercial decisions and maximise value creation.

As a Synergies & Events Finance Analyst your key responsibilities will be to:

Business partner the Synergies Commercial Team to ensure the delivery of the GFR synergy benefits with support from the Commercial Strategy & Operations Finance Manager
Business partner the Business Planning Commercial Team on Events performance & recommendations with support from the Commercial Strategy & Operations Finance Manager
Work closely with the other Trading Finance teams, supporting the sharing of best practice and collaborative working to deliver consistent and effective business partnering across both brands tools and lessons learnt with Finance & Non-Finance stakeholders
Drive margin performance through cost, price, terms opportunities & promotional effectiveness, tracking and understanding the financial impact of action plans, and helping to drive these through to completion
Contribute to the timely day-to-day reporting, planning, budgeting & forecasting activities with guidance from the Commercial Strategy & Operations Finance Manager including;
Tracking and reporting progress of synergies & events

Providing support and challenge to identify opportunities and risks and enable delivery through provision of analysis and insight
Reporting GFR synergy benefits to the Financial Planning & Analysis team for consolidation
Contribute to the reporting and performance insights of Events to the Sainsbury’s Argos board
Liaise with Trading teams to ensure that all GFR benefits are correctly reflected in the Trading team’s budget/forecast
Adhoc financial modelling on Events pre & post implementation and liaise with Trading team’s on target setting
Responsible for managing relationships with relevant stakeholders across all levels and including other functions, particularly Commercial in both Brands
Share relevant tools and lessons learnt with Finance & Non-Finance stakeholders

As a Synergies & Events Finance Analyst, your essential skills and experience will include:

Qualified accountant with indicative 0-3 post-qualification experience (or qualified by experience)
Strong commercial acumen, curiosity beyond traditional finance boundaries and ability to understand key business drivers
Ability to present complex information in a simplified manner
Strong analytical skills, Excel skills and attention to detail
Track record of value creation
Experience in a business-facing Finance role - enthusiastic, positive and proactive engagement of key stakeholders to build credible relationships whilst retaining professional integrity
Resilience (flexible and able to cope with time pressure, risk & ambiguity)
Experience with identifying risks & opportunities in the P&L and driving P&L performance improvements (e.g. closing gaps vs. target)
Experience in using systems that support financial accounting and reporting processes
Experience in a large company environment, preferably retail (desired)
Strong planning and prioritisation skills
