The Product Manager is focused on understanding and delivering customer needs for specific products. The role executes the strategy for their products in line with agreed product metrics and outcomes.
Working alongside engineering colleagues, and 3rd party partners, the Product Manager supports defining, delivering, and iterating features and capabilities, and finding ways to deliver great experiences for our customers.
As the ‘Product Manager – Pick Marshal Load' you will be responsible for building tools for the job for our instore colleagues who pick and get orders ready for dispatch. You will be leading on an ambitious product roadmap to help drive both colleague efficiencies, and great customer experiences in the Food Delivery domain. You’ll bring your strategic product vision & perspective - executing the roadmap, delivering value to your end users. You'll be working with partners in the engineering, architecture, experience design and operations teams, as well as external suppliers, to develop reliable, secure, and user-friendly products, addressing real user need and setting us up for future success.
What I need to do
• Support end-to-end delivery by maintaining a product roadmap, as well as a prioritised and estimated backlog. Regularly communicate progress to stakeholders, and proactively manage risks.
• Identify appropriate metrics with which to validate the value and impact of the product iterations. Incorporate insights and user feedback into your roadmap prioritisation, making data-led decisions where possible.
• Collaborate with other product and engineering teams, and 3rd parties, to launch new product features and business capabilities.
• Help identify necessary and/or desirable third-party technology to evaluate. Together with technology teams evaluate potential partner relationships and select vendors.
• Monitor relevant industry trends and engage both internal and external teams as appropriate to build shared insight.
• Stakeholder site visits will be key to understanding the problems we are solving, including early morning starts.
How I will succeed
• Apply insight, data and research to ensure your team are focused on making the biggest difference for customers and the business as defined by agreed outcomes and metrics.
• Identify and keep close to the customers for your product. Track pain points and opportunities, and act as the voice of the customer.
• Build a highly collaborative relationship with engineering teams, working together at all levels to solve problems for our customers and the business.
• Actively contribute to team ceremonies, helping to drive improvement to ways of working within the team.
• Consistently engage and motivate people with a variety of perspectives around the roadmap for your product; facing into difficult conversations and accepting constructive challenge from stakeholders.
• Create a positive impact with internal and external audiences, ensuring senior stakeholder advocacy for the product.
• Work with other disciplines across tech to understand the implications of tech choices based on constraints and trade-offs.
• Prioritise, coordinate and communicate the resolution of live product issues as required.
What I need to know
• Knowledge and understanding of a retail business and the technology landscape, and how to maximise the value that technology products can add.
• How to build a product roadmap and vision using tools and methods such as a vision boards, or ICE prioritisation.
• Understanding of Agile software delivery and modern engineering team practices.
• Knowledge of product development principles
• Understand the technology used in your product area.
What I need to show
• Ability to translate business goals, technology strategy and market knowledge into a product roadmap that prioritises delivery of value and enables future business agility.
• Familiarity with different delivery approaches and agile practices as well as product frameworks that can drive team delivery.
• A solid technical grounding, comfortable having technical discussions with the engineering teams, and ability to relay relevant information including the benefit of technical tasks, to non-technical people.
• Familiarity with tech health and why it matters.
• Driving and championing the vision for your product
• Ability to switch between strategic visioning and getting into the detail, being the authority in all aspects of your product.
• A good understanding of the contribution your product makes towards our business strategy and goals.
• Accountability for the delivery of the roadmap for the product.
• Anticipation of risks and ability to identify opportunities.
• Responding to issues and escalations at pace and coaching others to find solutions based on your expertise.
• Awareness of existing and future technology stacks and interfaces for the product and how to develop these so they work seamlessly for customers and colleagues.
• Playing an active role in canvassing feedback for your product and driving user research to plan for the future. Curiosity about the tech landscape and developments in the market that are relevant to your product.
• Strong influencing skills, adapting to different levels of ambiguity and urgency.
• A high level of team contribution, seek opportunities to provide input and support across the team and outside core areas of focus.
