The AREVA Fuel Business Group:

The Fuel Business Group combines activities associated with the conversion and enrichment of uranium and with the design and fuel production for nuclear reactors. The production capacities of the Group, one of the world's leaders in the sector, are undergoing modernization.

Production Support Product Center:

The Production Support Product Center provides laboratory analyses for all waste and process samples generated on the AREVA Richland site. The analytical results from process samples are used to evaluate, release and ship product to customers. The analytical results from waste samples are used to direct waste management activities, including packaging and shipping, in order to handle and dispose waste in accordance with State and Federal regulations.

Job Description:

AREVA is seeking a Waste Engineer for the Production Support Product Center for our Richland, WA location . Typical projects are all aspects of waste management - this may include tooling, process definition, corrective action implementation, deviation resolution, process documentation, etc. Activities include waste handling, waste container inspection and shipping, NDA gamma-ray analysis (ISO-CART™), scrap recovery, nuclear ashes processing.

Responsibilities and duties include:
· Performs non-routine and varied engineering assignments for all site waste management activities:
· Waste Handling
· Supporting radioactive waste database users
· Creating and maintain Operating Procedures for the collection, volume reduction, and packaging of radioactive waste.
· Creating “Waste Management Plans” for non-standard waste streams as they are encountered.
· Creating and maintaining process qualifications (establish uranium limits) for each waste stream packaged.
· Issuing a monthly report of waste inventory and packaging activities to management
· Providing volume and cost estimates for the decommissioning funding plan
· Waste Container Shipping / Handling / Quality Inspection
· Maintaining the hazardous waste database
· Creating and maintaining waste inspection plans (quality assurance) for each waste stream shipped offsite for final burial.
· Reviewing and tracking all invoices for waste management and disposal.
· NDA Gamma Ray Analysis (ISO-CART™)
· Creating and maintaining assay qualification and assay standards for each waste type
· Performing gamma spectroscopy analysis on collected data
· Maintain qualifications and certifications for all waste related activities.
· Identify root cause of production support issues and implement corrective actions.
· Learn and utilize certain key software packages – SAP, NIMS, Waste database.
· Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer standards.
· Provides support and instructions to Plant Support and Waste technicians.
· Works on special projects, as directed.
· Performs other related duties and tasks, as required.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
·  Engineer II - Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology PLUS 2-3 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MBA/MS 1-2 years or PhD 1-3 years).
·  Engineer III - Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology PLUS 3-5 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MBA/MS 1-2 years or PhD 1-3 years).
·  Engineer IV - Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology PLUS 5-7 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MBA/MS 1-2 years or PhD 1-3 years).
· 
A minimum of four years of waste management experience in a strict quality assurance environment such as nuclear or chemical field.

·  Strong technical problem-solving abilities
·  Strong interpersonal skills
·  Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
·  Desire to work in a team environment
·  Experience with Human Performance Tools.
· 
Experience with at least one of the following: Lean, OEE, Manufacturing Excellence, Conduct of Operations.

The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.

·  Advanced Hazardous Materials Shipper Certification
·  Advanced Radioactive Materials Shipper Certification
·  Advanced Hazardous Waste Shipper Certification
·  Advanced Mixed Waste Shipper Certification
·  Experience in Lean Manufacturing, Lean 6-Sigma, welding, and/or automated equipment.
·  A background in nuclear manufacturing operations.
·  Strong multitasking aptitudes.

TRAVEL

Sporadic 5%. Travel may be international. Potential support to AREVA fuel plants (Lingen, Germany - Romans, France)
