Job description

This Associate Counsel/Legal Manager position provides legal support to the Global Corporate Payments (GCP) business. GCP builds and maintains relationships with companies by providing a broad range of card programs, expense management tools, and cross-border payment solutions to help customers around the world manage their business spending. The position will support the client sales, account management and risk management teams at all levels in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements with large and sophisticated companies. The position requires a skilled attorney or paralegal with demonstrated experience in contract and commercial Law.

Job responsibilities:
· Working with legal and business partners to support the drafting of client agreements with mid-size and large companies, including advising on compliance, contract interpretation, and other issues relating to client programs
· Providing support and guidance to the Global Dollar Card portfolio within GCP, which are USD denominated card products offered in 150 markets outside the U.S., in the negotiation of agreements, maintenance of referral agreements, card remittance agreements, review of marketing material and cross-border product alignment, and legal assessment of local legal and regulatory requirements
· Interacting, liaising, and coordinating with global business teams and clients in various regions
· Partnering with GCP Credit Risk Management Team in implementation of various initiatives related to underwriting, credit monitoring, prospecting and corporate bankruptcies
· Providing support and guidance to GCP Privacy Team and participate with the Enterprise Incident Response Program and Chief Information Security Office in handling matters related to security incidents and remediation actions for GCP

Desired profile

·  3+ years of work experience involving contract and commercial law, contract drafting and negotiation in a corporate setting or a private transactional legal practice
·  Prudent judgment and the ability to balance risk and legal compliance and internal policy
·  Exceptional written and oral communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external constituencies to drive business results
·  Self-motivated with an ability to resolve complex issues with a resourceful, independent attitude
·  Flexibility and desire to take on new responsibilities as American Express and its businesses continue to evolve
·  Ability to handle multiple deadline-driven tasks independently
·  Detail oriented but also flexible, creative, and able to manage ambiguity well
·  Team player with the ability to influence others and work across borders and time zones
·  Strong work ethic with an intense will-to-win and demonstrate personal excellence and accountability
·  Spanish language skills is strongly preferred
·  JD admitted to practice law in the United States or non-attorney with significant relevant experience
