DESCRIPTION

The Alexa Household Organization team is developing the features and technologies that make Alexa the ideal home assistant. By blending intuitive voice and touch interactions, we are making Alexa an invaluable part of how households communicate and coordinate.

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Research Scientist who can develop and own individual research programs within a larger team of user researchers and designers. In this role, you will be a key member of a growing cross-functional team, working collaboratively with leadership and independent contributors across science/, design, data analytics, and product management. You will combine your expertise in research methods and data science to answer complex research questions that will improve the Alexa experience for our customers. This role requires independent ownership on developing and executing a research project, as you will be responsible for communicating your findings and methods with cross-functional partners as well as business and technical leadership. By combining autonomy with thoughtful decision-making, capabilities, you will balance stakeholder demands and execute on the team’s research needs. You will collaborate with other research and design teams in Alexa to deliver insights which fundamentally shape and continuously improve products and the lives of our millions of customers.

Responsibilities

· Help engineering and product teams answer the right research questions, executing on research projects that align with scientific, product, and engineering development
· Independently execute on research projects that utilize quantitative methods appropriate to the questions and resources at hand
· Synthesize a wide range of primary and secondary data types to perform quick and thorough analyses leading to focused, insightful, and actionable findings
· Effectively translate data and insights into strategy and design direction
· Deliver detailed research narratives to socialize study results that provide insight to cross-functional stakeholders
· Enable product teams and leaders to have a deep understanding of customer problems and behaviors across entire populations and key segments
· Build and continuously improve a robust and thoughtful approaches to gather customer insights and collaborate with other research teams in Amazon
· Communicate results and opportunities in clear, concise, and compelling ways to all levels of management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· A strong quantitative and technical skill set that supports independent execution of research projects (such as knowledge of SQL and statistical programming, like R or Python)
· Ability to collaborate and manage research peers to execute on interdisciplinary research projects
· Deep understanding of human motivations, capabilities, and limitations
· Ability to independently drive multiple concurrent projects in an agile environment
· Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills; ability to distill complex ideas into concise and accurate narratives that enlighten and inspire

Desired profile



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· PhD or equivalent Master's degree plus 4+ years of research experience in a quantitative filed
· Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principals and concepts to business problems and products
· 5+ years of experience with end-to-end research projects (study design, test creation, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting)
· Experience independently executing research projects in collaboration with multiple stakeholders and leadership
· Broad experience with quantitative research methods that leverage data to understand human behavior, including, log analysis, regression modeling, controlled experimentation (A/B testing), and maximum likelihood estimation.
· A track record of research work that has resulted in data-driven narratives that impact future directions and development.
· MA/MS/PhD in a human-behavior related field (HCI, Psychology, Sociology, Information Science, Economics, Political Science, etc.)
