Our focus in the Alexa Knowledge team combines natural language understanding, acquiring large volumes of structured knowledge, and building autonomous machine reasoning to allow our customers to get answers to their questions in the most natural way possible. We're part of a huge research and engineering effort on the Amazon Alexa team.

We've solved many complex problems to get to where we are today, but there are still plenty of challenges ahead of us, and Alexa is getting smarter every day. The problems we solve in the Alexa Knowledge team in Cambridge help Alexa get smarter by understanding the different ways people talk, by learning more and more facts about the world, by improving her common sense reasoning and by responding in the most natural way possible in multiple languages.

We set out to build Alexa at Amazon because we believe that voice will fundamentally improve the way people will interact with technology, and we wanted to create a computer in the cloud that could be controlled entirely by your voice.

Your new role:
Knowledge Engineering at Amazon is an exciting and multi-disciplined role that forms an important part in the ongoing success of Alexa. Our Knowledge Engineers work to understand real world concepts and represent them in our system. They also configure the natural language processing and generation systems to help Alexa understand questions and respond with spoken answers.

A successful candidate will have demonstrated academic excellence in a subject such as mathematics, linguistics, philosophy, or library science, will be highly analytical, and have great communication skills.

Your responsibilities will include:
· Representing real-world objects and concepts in ways that both computers and people can understand.
· Managing and adding to a complex class hierarchy.
· Using our specialized query language as you work on our systems for understanding questions, performing inference, and providing natural language responses.

· Using your newly acquired understanding of knowledge representation and the Evi system to contribute to innovative approaches to difficult problems.

QUALIFICATIONS DE BASE

• Concise clear written communication skills (ideally demonstrated in your CV!) and excellent verbal communication ability.
• Knowledge of TKQL, QSR Annotation Data Analysis
• Knowledge Engineering experience.
• Academic excellence, for example demonstrated by excellent progress on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

• Broad general knowledge.
• Ability to learn a wide range of skills, for example demonstrated by a joint degree or broad range of subject choices earlier in your education.

• Highly analytical with a data-driven approach to making decisions and attention to detail.
