he AWS Container Services organization is responsible for building and operating some of the core services that help customers run containerized microservices, including Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS, AWS App Mesh, AWS Cloudmap, AWS Fargate and Amazon ECR. We have a committed road-map that seeks to redefine how our customers build their applications and run them at scale.
App Networking is one of our biggest areas of investment and one of the fast growing areas within the containers org. Here, we seek to let developers take full-advantage of the speed, agility, and immutability that containers and serverless workloads (ECS, EKS, Fargate etc.) and enable them to build resilient and secure microservices by making it simple to adopt cross-cutting best practices. The Application Networking team helps customers deploy, operate, and secure applications running on AWS. AWS Cloud Map, a service discovery solution, helps applications find each other by name (and other attributes) instead of by IP address. AWS App Mesh, a managed service mesh, provides advanced network traffic shaping controls, observability data, and additional layers of network security. Together, these tools make it easier for customers to manage connectivity between their applications and take full advantage of dynamic cloud infrastructure. Over the last year, the App Mesh team has launched a service that enabled our customers to declaratively define their how applications are connected, observed and secured. We have built a compute agnostic service mesh that works with EKS,k8s, ECS, EC2, and plan on supporting more (https://github.com/aws/aws-app-mesh-roadmap/issues/33). Our team has adopted an open product development roadmap (https://github.com/aws/aws-app-mesh-roadmap/issues) and we are committed to contributing back to open source projects that we benefit from (https://github.com/envoyproxy/envoy/pull/8862, https://github.com/envoyproxy/envoy/pull/8526). We have built our services on the same technologies and infrastructure our customers use, AWS Fagate, Lambda, EC2. As we continue to grow our service and customers we will be working to build new integrations, utilize more of AWS and contribute more back to open source.
As part of the AWS App Mesh team you will be responsible for building the our core services and integrations with AWS technologies, and open source software and partner services that our customers use today. You will work on improving Envoy and helping create the UX that defines the terms application networking and service mesh. You will be asked to think in terms of features, scale and security at an global AWS scale. You will have the opportunity use your passion and customer focus to work in the open with our product managers, customers, open source software maintainers, and partners to make App Mesh delightful for our customers.

This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

· 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
· Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
· 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
· Experience with large scale distributed systems.
· Working knowledge of databases and back-end programming.
· Able to work in a diverse team
