The concept of Business Rules is one of the main new trends of the IT and one of its major standards. It enables a product to separate its code from the business logic by creating a knowledge database which defines the behavior of the application based on functional criteria. For example, the fares logic for an airline could depend on the traveler habits, the destination, the customer location or any other functional data.

BZR team is responsible for the Amadeus Business Rules (ABR) product. It’s a central knowledge repository for all the functional logics in the heart of Altéa Suite: Altéa Inventory & Altéa Departure Control System which are one of the most adopted solutions in the airline IT industry worldwide. Currently more and more Amadeus products (Electronic ticketing, EOT, Advertising Server, Availability process) are defining their logics with ABR.

A business rule engine general purpose is to automatically take the best decisions based on provided input data. To take even better decisions, one of the needs is to understand the input data; and to better understand input data, we need to interact with it. Interactions with industry-level datasets, along with cutting-edge technologies for graph representation and visualization, could enable ABR users to get quicker and clearer insights about their keywords.

Objectives of the internship:

· Understand the Amadeus BRE relational DB model
· Propose a graph representation of the DB model
· Develop a tool to represent data relationships to get clear and quick insights and interact with it

Possible focus areas, to be defined upon the intern wishes:

· Extended study on graph DB models and their applicability to ABR usage
· Performance analysis / comparison with the existing model
· Usability study on best data representation / visualization

Benefits for the intern:

· Play with real-size datasets, in an industrial context
· Possibility to use state of the art technologies
· Significant contribution in extracting business value from one of Amadeus most critical DBs
· Experience day to day interactions with an international team working on a mission critical application
