The following Temporary Position has arisen as the current job holder has been seconded to cover a colleagues’ long term sickness absence.  The continuance of this temporary position will therefore be reviewed on a month by month basis.

Purpose of Job:

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for assisting in the service, maintenance, repair and overhaul of locomotives, coaching stock, plant and equipment. You will assist in the provision of stores activities, shunting and train preparation.

Responsibilities to include:

·  Shunting, coupling/uncoupling, train preparation, forklift truck driving, labouring, lubrication, steam lancing, carne driving, fuelling, off vehicle battery maintenance and systems top up.
·  Block/pad change following assessment
·  Ensuring that the general housekeeping requirements are adhered to and standards of cleanliness maintained and improved.
·  Compliance with all depot protection procedures
·  Understanding of and abiding to safety notices, rules and regulations and follow safe working practices.
·  Adherence to and working within Quality Systems
·  Working as part of a team, completing or assisting in any of the team's activities to ensure work is completed on time and to specification.

Key skills and requirements for the role include:-

·  Competent and medically fit to undertake train driving and shunting activities or willing to learn
·  Able to cover Op’s Co-ordinator role if required, following training
·  Numerate and literate
·  Forklift truck licence preferable
·  Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge preferable
·  Prepared to work shifts including days, nights, weekends & public holidays.

Desired knowledge/Experience:

·  Previous Railway/Depot experience preferable
