Job description

Duties & Responsibilities

·         Responsible for optical design and development for timely support on new projects of moderate size and complexity, implementation of new technologies, and all other assigned projects

·         Provides optical design related guidance and technical advice to project engineers and designers for new product development and production projects

·         Designs and conducts tests, lab set up, data acquisition, data analysis, and other evaluations for prototype and pre-production hardware

·         Recommends and implements design changes to production products per prototype testing results

·         Researches and develops design solutions to automotive lighting engineering issues

·         Generates new concepts for improving optical design capabilities

·         Conducts feasibility studies and engineering analyses for the new concepts

·         Assists the development of new techniques or methodologies for new products with new light sources, new manufacturing techniques, and/or other new technologies

·         Maintains open lines of communications with internal project teams and external customers and suppliers related to assigned projects

Experience & Education

·         Must meet one of the following: Master's Degree in Engineering with courses in optics, mechanical engineering, or Physics. Will also accept a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with courses in optics, mechanical engineering, and physics plus 3 years of experience in optical design and/or photometry

·         Experience in lab set up and testing methods

·         Experience in optical design and development within automotive parts manufacturing is preferred

·         Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

o    Knowledge of testing methods and government requirements for automotive designs

o    Data analysis and problem-solving skills

o    Organizational and planning skills

o    Computer skills using standard business software (including MS Office programs)

o    Written and verbal communications and presentation skills

o    Interpersonal skills — to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority
