Description of the job

An exciting opportunity for a Wind Tunnel Data Acquisition and Instrumentation Specialist has arisen in Airbus Filton. The Wind Tunnel at Airbus Filton conducts experiments for both Airbus and External companies, with every new Airbus aircraft being tested here. In the role of Wind Tunnel data acquisition and instrumentation specialist, you will be working within a team environment in the preparation of models and rigs for testing, participating in testing,
processing/delivery of results.

Tasks & accountabilities

Key activities of this role will include:

o Programming in C++ or similar high level language
o Advanced data analytics and integration support for digital aircraft development.
o WT Operations software, maintenance, enhancement and future proofing.
o Development, maintenance and calibration of specialist rigs and associated equipment/instrumentation.
o Networking of LAN PC's to control wind tunnel and models
o Development and support of digital video systems and CODECS etc.
o Data validation procedures and protocols.
o Assisting in the preparation of models to be tested in the wind tunnel
o Attending meetings to contribute to and refine test requirements.
o Undertaking training, where necessary, in support of the above duties, to ensure that safe working practices are observed.

Occasional travel within Europe will be required.

Required skills

As the successful candidate, you must be able to demonstrate the following:

o A background of programming in C++ or experience with a similar high level language
o Educated to a degree level in Computer Science, Engineering or similar.
o Knowledge of XML, SQL and UNIX scripts
o Knowledge of TCIP, UDP and RS232 communications.
o Labview programming
o Data analytical methods
o Familiarisation with aerodynamic and wind tunnel terminology is desirable but not essential
o Team player and effective communicator
