About MAIT

Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration and Testing (MAIT) is the backbone of the creation and delivery of our Space and Military products throughout the World. We manufacture our own parts onsite with revolutionary technology and expertise gathered over years of creating industry leading products. We assemble our parts together with other parts that have been sourced from industry leading providers of the best technical hardware available. We integrate our systems onto our space and military craft and make sure that everything is ready for launch. We test everything (sometimes to breaking point) to make sure that once it leaves the Earth atmosphere it is the best possible product we can create, it will withstand any possible variable and temperature as well as be reliable for as long as the satellite is in operation… sometimes longer than 15 years!

Test Operator (Structures)

Airbus Defence and Space (ADS) is looking for a Test Operator (Structures) to join the fast-paced and dynamic Manufacturing team – Structure Test Facilities (SSTF).

If you are a mechanical or electrical technician and would like to start your journey into Space-System testing, then this a great opportunity to embark with Airbus Defence and Space and grow your skills and experience in a new field.

The SSTF team is testing large and small Space structures and Support Equipment with state of the art electronic and hydraulic systems. This role will report into a Team Leader.

Desired profile

Tasks & accountabilities

·  Working to clearly defined goals with respect to quality, output and timescale.
·  You will be required to mechanically assemble the structural test rigs and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment test rigs as per the instructions provided by the engineers and/or to electrically assemble the structural test rigs and MGSE test rigs as per the instructions provided by the engineers
·  Highlight any anomalies and proactively liaise with the Team Leader/Engineering to update paper works to reflect build sequence and data capture requirements.
·  To setup the hydraulic equipment including flushing of Structure and MGSE test rigs and exercising actuators
·  Conduct the though calibration of instrumentation for both the Structure and MGSE test rigs
·  Participate in load application during tests by use of Hand pumps to operate hydraulic equipment
·  Participate in the validation of test hardware during a test
·  Able to bond and setup strain gauges onto test and flight equipment
·  Able to follow and work in accordance with processes and procedures defined within LDS/ADS.
·  Comply with all Health and Safety rules within the facility
·  To demonstrate the desire, commitment and team working ethic to complete task in the correct quality and lead time.
·  Support the daily SQCDP reporting process
·  Conduct maintenance activities on equipment and systems
·  Promote Cleanroom regulations, local area health and safety requirements and 5S policy within local work areas
·  To demonstrate flexibility and mobility to work across different product and or departments as required by the workload.
·  To work directly with engineers, designers and customers as need dictates.

Required skills

·  Minimum of ONC / NVQ 3 level in Manufacturing or Production discipline or recognised technician level apprenticeship
·  Experience of assembly, manufacturing, test or production environment.
·  Experience of working within a clean room environment and of being part of a team.
·  Able to carry out all electrical hand skills to a high standard, soldering crimping heat shrinking etc
·  Mounting, installation, bonding and testing of various electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical components used in the instrumentation of a test.
·  Ability to use electrical test equipment, DVM, Megger,
·  Familiarity with electrical sensors, gauges and position indicators.
·  Assembly and validation test leads and harnesses fitted with D connectors, Dim plugs etc.
·  Install minor assemblies to assist in the final installation of electrical and electronic components.
·  Perform electrical/electro-mechanical system operational checks, trouble shoot and correct malfunctions.
·  Ability to work, mainly un-supervised, from wiring diagrams, technical drawings, work instructions, written or verbal instructions and after training retrieve production data directly from computer systems.
·  Follow Health & Safety practices and contribute to the safe working environment of the Test Facility
