Description of the job

Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group, focused on developing defence and aerospace solutions for customers across the world. We are currently the second largest space company and one of the top ten defence companies, with sites in the UK, the rest of Europe and further afield.

We are presently looking for a Systems Integration and Test Engineer to join our Satcom Network Systems group. This role is based primarily at our Portsmouth site but includes scope to travel across our other UK sites. You will gain hands-on experience in Systems Integration and will have the opportunity to lead in challenging situations in a real world example. Also you will have access to a catalogue of training, both online and in person, which will enable you to develop your skills and experience.

Your responsibilities will be to provide input to and support Test Reviews as well as supporting the implementation team in the investigation and diagnosis of software issues. You will also be involved in the management of our simulators and testing rigs as well as the process of uploading and verifying new software builds.

You should be adaptable and a quick learner, with an eye for detail and strong problem solving abilities. You should be comfortable using your initiative and be self-motivated, as well as enjoying being a key part of our existing team. You will be comfortable documenting and reporting technical information clearly and concisely, and be able to verify problem reports.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Performing Integration Testing of our new and existing Hardware and Software systems.
·  Fault Finding, using diagnostic and debugging Tools.
·  Writing Test Procedures and Test Reports for the verification of all releases.
·  Provide a supporting role in test reviews
·  Testing and verifying major components of the Core Airbus Products on remote platforms across different security domains.
·  Testing and verifying deliveries by configuring and setting up all necessary equipment in the labs
·  Providing support to the other test facilities & live networks either from Portsmouth Lab or on site at the actual facilities in the UK.
·  Verifying problem report resolution
·  Recording detailed observations and problem reports to support our development team

Some of the tools you will be using include:

·  DB2 databases.
·  Apache Tomcat Webserver
·  Virtual machines
·  IBM Rational DOORs .Requirements Manager
·  Configuration Management and change control tools such as Clearcase and Clearquest

Required skills

We are looking for applicants with the following skills and experience:

·  Experience in software testing of systems written using scripting languages. E.g. Python
·  Experience of Software developments using the Agile methodology.
·  Knowledge of systems integration.
·  Working knowledge of IP networking and virtualization would be beneficial.
·  Knowledge of Telecommunication Systems and protocols would be useful e.g. IP telephony as well as serial protocols.
·  Experience of Network Management Systems would be desirable
·  Experience of writing Test plans and Test procedures from system/sub-system requirements Specifications.
·  Experience with Virtualisation products e.g. VSphere
·  Experience with SNMP protocol and XML scripts.
·  Experience with IP Networking protocols and router configurations
·  Integration and fault finding experience with complex systems
·  Understanding of Satellite Network Management System architecture and satellite communication systems would be beneficial
·  Familiarity with network equipment such as Cisco routers, Juniper CTPs (Serial to IP converters) and Comtech SLM5650a would be useful but not essential.
