Description of the job

A vacancy for a Support Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Portsmouth. The successful applicant will join our Modem Product Group.

The Modem Product Group produces a range of market leading products under the brand name of Proteus. As part of an on-going and ambitious product development programme there are a number of waveforms.

The Modem Centre of Excellence (COE) requires an Support Engineer in who will work with both the Modem and Through Life Support teams. They will identify the root-cause of modem issues and then work to resolve the issues in a customer's products.

The Modem Support Engineer will be a key member of the Modem team, they will represent the Modem team to Through Life Support and also be visible to the equipment end-user. They will work with Through Life Support team to identify and resolve modem faults (with the support of the Modem Group where necessary).

You candidate will be confident in using test equipment and telecommunications equipment, or be confident to learn these skills. Additionally, you should be happy to be placed in a position of responsibility that is visible to the customer.

The successful applicant will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake the role.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Act as the interface point between the Modem Product and Through Life support teams
·  Be able to understand fault reports and be able to recreate, identify and resolve the faults.
·  Where necessary work in close co-operation with the Modem Group's product development team to reproduce errors and ascertain a suitable resolution to these issues.

Required skills

We are looking for applicants with the following skills and experience:

Technical:

·  System integration/debugging of communications systems.
·  Interest in the definition of and through life development of Modem Products and/or solutions for telecommunications systems;
·  Interest in/familiarity with Modem technologies such as knowledge of commercially available satcom products.

General:

·  Must have the ability to work independently and be an effective leader of a diversified team
·  Must demonstrate creative problem solving skills.
·  Must work well within a deadline-driven environment
·  Be prepared to learn!
