Role description

A vacancy has arisen at Airbus Defence & Space for the position of Principle Project Engineer for Buildings & Construction UK.

The successful applicant will join the Buildings and Construction team within Facility Management (FM) & Real Estate (RE) UK team and will report to the Head of Strategic projects.

The jobholder has authority over all the project team members, project engineers and external professionals.

As Principle Project Engineer – You will contribute to the following overall organisation targets:

- Transformation of the different divisional FM&RE organisations into one integrated FM&RE organisation
- Cost reduction challenges through the General and Strategic Projects associated with CAPEX and Opex spend
- Development of individual sites in line with organisational strategy.

Priority will be given to employees whose position is impacted by a workforce adaptation initiative.

Tasks
The range of tasks leads from contribution to site selections and delivery of full master planning for new sites until supervision of construction works through the full project life cycle, ensuring the handover to the maintenance function is timely.

The main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Liaise with all diverse stakeholders and Multi-Functional team members to develop and optimise a project plan, control and deliver the project through the project lifecycle, handover on the completed works and issue all relevant information.
·  Able to represent, oversee and coach any aspect of project delivery within Building and Construction.
·  Ability to develop and deploy industrial standards whilst contributing actively to optimise long-term planning from concept to implementation.
·  Co-ordinating the detailed design of Buildings and infrastructure for a range of projects including but not limited to major plant construction, replacement and refurbishment works.
·  Monitoring of installation works on site and observance of technical compliance and Health and Safety team matters
·  Take full responsibility for overall progress of projects and use the necessary resources to prepare reports and initiate corrective actions where necessary.
·  Prepare the End of Project Report using all required information, including customer feedback, designer and supplier performance data.
·  Agree a technical and quality strategy with appropriate members of the Project team.
·  Identify all project risks and manage the development and delivery of any mitigation plans to protect the customer and ensure that all risks are on the Risk Register.
·  Liaise with the project team members to ensure compliance to SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People) Target Conditions and represent the Building and Construction team at the daily FM Start of Shift, whilst ensuring project issues are properly reported.
·  Be responsible for change / variation process control and liaise with QS and team members to ensure compliance to the approved budget and to secure and optimize the commercial position of Airbus.

·  Identify and obtain any support and advice required for the management, planning and control of the project portfolio.
·  Develop and submit business cases with full cost benefit analysis to enable an unambiguous request for funding.
·  Support the long term Site Master Planning process to ensure the development of sites is topical and consistent.

Besides balancing the allocation of resources in 5 different sites a significant challenge is to manage customer demand as well as the delivery of state of the art facilities against financial targets and business critical deadlines to enable the completion of aircraft and space & defence product and service deliverables across the UK.

The main challenge of the role is taking full accountability to deliver critical, very high value investments to support tactical and strategic business objectives for both the commercial, space and defence divisions.

This role will involve occasional travel throughout UK and Europe and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and competences:
 

·  A NEBOSH/CIBSE/BIFM qualification is preferred
·  Educated at degree level in Engineering
·  Extensive proven experience in an engineering environment
·  Proven leadership skills
·  Ability to manage complex tasks, deliver them to demanding timescales and ensure key performance measures are achieved
·  PC skills and a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Powerpoint
·  Good interpersonal and communication skills
·  Demonstrated problem solving ability

Advanced level in English, both written and verbal.
