Task & accountabilities :
Optical metrology for space projects

The future program department of Airbus in Friedrichshafen (Germany) is operating the Laboratory for Enabling Technologies (LET), which develops and verifies novel technologies for future space missions and supports ongoing activities of the department. In the last decade the LET has developed a unique heritage in highly precise laser metrology for space applications and in the field of micro electric propulsion for highly precise AOCS.

Tasks:
The topic of the work will be a further improvement of the frequency stability of cavity-locked laser systems in the lab as well as supporting projects on optical cavities and laser interferometry for space. To this end, it is foreseen to improve both the vacuum system and the thermal stabilization of existing laser cavity-setups. Several environmental and performance test-campaigns on stable laser systems and optical cavities for space are ongoing or scheduled, and support in these campaigns can be part of the work.

Required skills :
You offer:
- Enrolled student (m/f) within Physics, Optics, Optoelectronicsor similar field of study
- Experience with laser optics
- LabView / Matlab
- Electronics, FPGA
- German / English
