Job Description

A vacancy for a Structure Design position has arisen in Airbus (Commercial Aircraft) / Engineering in Toulouse. Within Engineering Airframe for Nose and Center Fuselage, IAXWS department has a unique positioning by leading activities over three different programs, bringing diversity in activities ranging from the implementation of military capabilities to serial and in-service aircrafts support, and including new developments. This variety of activities is completed by a diversification policy, to ensure best use of skills & knowledge across the different programs. In addition we develop multi skill approach between Design and Stress, Fatigue and Static, for both composite and metallic structures.

These activities are performed in strong collaboration with other organizations: transnational Structure and Systems Installation Engineering, Airbus Defense & Space, Customer Services, Manufacturing Engineering, Airframe Programs and Supply chain including RSPs.

A330, A380 and A400M Programs face numerous challenges in short and medium term which directly implicate Structure perimeter. Incremental development and Customization traditionally have a high impact on Nose and Center Fuselage structures and drive high internal workload for IAXWS. Fuselage industrial performance and customization have an important contribution to Programmes future profitability which demands RC reduction and optimization of plant and FAL processes, while taking maximum benefit of new digital solutions. The growing fleet is also an aging fleet which brings specific airframe challenges, including retrofit activities; at the same time airline customers expect reduced cost of ownership and greater aircraft availability.

Tasks and accountabilities

Structure Designer for retrofit activities will have the following tasks and accountabilities:

·  Ensure the safe operation of Airbus aircraft with respect to structural integrity.
·  Perform and provide technical guidance for structure design.
·  Provide technical leadership and approval for structure design in order to produce optimized engineering solutions in line with Airlines expectations.
·  Steer subcontracted deliveries in terms of Cost, Time & Quality.
·  Ensure design support to Working Party.
·  Ensure interface and communication with relevant stakeholders.
·  Provide support to our internal customers: Manufacturing, Customer Services, Programmes…
·  Coordinate different Stress & Design teams to fulfill Airworthiness requirements.

This role will involve travels for business within and externally to Airbus, and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Engineering Degree level qualification in Aircraft Design,
·  Experience in Structure Design which gave you the knowledge in terms of fundamental design principles and Airbus design methods, tools and processes (or equivalent),
·  Experience with Airbus structure design tools (CATIAV5, Gilda, Primes, ..)
·  Capability to hold a technical signatory (preferably Airbus signatory) covering structure design would be a great asset,
·  Good understanding of airworthiness requirements and ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems,
·  Good relational skills and supplier management (interact/negotiate with all type of interlocutors)
·  High ability to react and adapt yourself quickly in a changing and demanding environment
·  Positive attitude and team spirit
·  Language Skills: English negotiation level and French intermediate level.
