For Airbus Helicopters in Donauwörth we are looking for you who is motivated to write your final thesis within our research project CORINNE as a dedicated support for the duration of 6 months.

Start date? September 2020

Working time frame? Full-time with 35 hours per week (in flexitime)

What do we exactly do and what could you expect?

In the research project CORINNE, a given rotor state feedback observer has to be implemented into the autopilot software using SCADE a graphical tool like Simulink to code the software.

In a second step, the software has to be tested on the AFCS test bench. The AFCS test bench is incorporating the real flight worthy hardware of the AFCS and a complete nonlinear simulation of the flight mechanics/physics. A tool chain has to be set up to compare the output of the observer with the rotor states given from the flight mechanical model. Based on this comparison a tuning algorithm is needed to optimize the observer settings.

Finally, in a post processing the implemented rotor states feedback observer results shall be compared to flight test data. If time permits, the controller shall be improved by using the rotor state feedback observer. A comparison of the performance of the existing and enhanced controller can be carried out.

What will be your scope of work?

·  Literature review about rotor state feedback
·  Implementation into the AFCS software
·  Implementation into the AFCS bench
·  Test on AFCS bench for data gathering
·  Evaluation of test bench data
·  Tuning of observer parameters according to the evaluation results
·  Post processing of flight test data and the observer data
·  Optionally: improving of exiting control law by using the observer, incl. performance comparison

·  You are aiming for a BA/MA degree in engineering
·  You are familiar with the topics design to requirements and application specific data processing
·  Systems engineering standards and collaborative design for production are no foreign words for you
·  You know your way around automatic control and estimation
·  You have furthermore great computing & communication skills
