As part of a school curriculum in initial training , you are looking for a mandatory internship or integrated into a gap year that will allow you to validate your studies. The internship duration is 4 to 6 months maximum.

We are looking for a “Satellite Flight Dynamics – Automatic Maneuver Detection intern (m/f) who will be joining us at Airbus Defence and Space site in Toulouse.

This internship is to be filled from March 2021 (hire dates are subject to certain flexibility).

You will be joining the department « AOCS, GNC and Flight dynamics» which activities include development activities on AOCS (Attitude and Orbital Control Systems), GNC (Guidance Navigation and Control System) and Flight Dynamics for Earth Observation, Science and Telecom missions. The objective of the internship is to develop space mechanics algorithms to automatically detect satellite maneuvers in order to develop Space Surveillance Intelligence (SSI) in Flight Dynamics department.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tasks and Responsibilities :

You will be working under the supervision of your manager who will help you identify your professional objectives and support you in the development of your skills.

The first part of the internship will be dedicated to develop space mechanics algorithms to automatically detect satellite maneuvers. Both LEO and GEO stations keeping orbits will be covered by the study. Knowledge of the orbit will be based on passive measurements. Operational considerations will be taken into account. The second part of the internship will be focused on the integration of new graphics components into the flight dynamics tool in order to visualise the satellites maneuvers.

Your main activities will include:

- Bibliography,

- Measurements simulators and orbit determination handling,

- Development of solutions adapted to each case,

- Test against real measurements,

- Graphic component integration with 3D satellite model,

- Demonstration on satellite maneuver scenario.

Required skills:

You are preparing a Master in Engineering or equivalent with a specialization in space systems or software development and you have the following competences:

- Interest in Astrodynamics, general mechanical engineering, mathematics, statistics, software development,

- Good knowledge of Linux and programming languages: Java Python,

- Knowledge of Matlab would be a plus,

- Languages: advanced level of both French and English.

Soft skills:

- Rigorous, curious and autonomous,

- Good interpersonal and communication skills,

- Able to integrate into a team and be a flexible team player,

- Able to analyse and synthesize information.

You will develop the following skills:

- Working inside an engineering team that develops high technical products for a large panel of spacecraft mission,

- Knowledge of spacecraft missions operations,

- Orbital modelling and simulation performance on numerical bench,

- Technical writing.
